POSTMODERNISM ETHOS: Décor of a Room, Proliferation of Surfaces or Something Else?

.

Ethos means bulk of ideation and set of the beliefs about social or relationship with person or group. This reflects parameters of the concerned community age and race. To begin with, Postmodernism phenomena are post- World War II labeled as for its certain disruptions and disagreements with the experimental and intellectual endeavors of modernism, though it shows the continuity of the modernism. The recent attempts of the modern science, the discourse of the human history, rapid urbanization, psychology, the dissemination of the high-tech global world and re-evaluation of human nature in the so called godless world, have led toward the distortions, crisis of social and ethical norms, its stance, logical position and dignified action. However in the post Darwinian world, the church’s failure in redemption, the destruction caused by the disillusionment, obstruction created by irrational falsehoods, diminishing of aristocracy and rapid urbanization led the shrewd and artist to locate the challenge of the hour. Such ideas were inspired by the theory of the relativity, psychoanalysis of Freud and Jung, biological and space determinism, and the quest to find the reality; such ideas are inclined towards the pragmatism and logical positivism.

At one hand, Marxist dialects and existentialism have created huge impact in the arena of postmodernism. On the other hand, the quest for the reality of the nature and absolute truth have been negated strongly and even called unscientific. Such thinking pattern leads nowhere politically or socially.

What is postmodernism or what is not, it nearly impossible to explain accurately. But there are some salient features of postmodernism and its movement which can be reduced to the essentials to postmodernism. The key feature of the postmodernism is the loss of meaning of the structuralism. Since the structuralism claim that there is no absolute relationship between the world and its meaning, and predicted meaning is random or capricious. The absolute approach towards the rationalism, the utterance of the empirical data and number-induced outlook have created the doldrums and abrogated the very foundation of the human values. Today, the fabric of humanism stands torn and muddied; the fabric gets flung wherever the wind blows. The spectre of ultra modernism is haunting the human outlook. Moreover, it has created a jolt between the grand and meta-narrative. The ongoing bombardment of the thesis and antithesis has created dents in the way of the catering something beneficial to humanity. In this age, the problematic things created by the quantitative data through sampling, surveys and case studies have created confusion and made men more dependent on figures than facts. Actually the postmodernism refers to the disruption within. It has no eternal message or strong bricked reality. Seeing such feigned scenario at vast level, postmodernism is startling phenomena, and this surly can’t be the décor of the room. This is something else, something less retrieving and more drowning. Postmodernism is not only a wave in literature, but it is involved in the politics and geo-political and socio-political references. The modes of thinking and actions are being influenced by the inherent interests or gratification of the caprices as the manifestation moral ground being weakened in this world. Postmodernism is strengthening a lot more bewilderment, Considering the fact, sometimes, for instance, it is really hard to distinguish the manifesto to a Marxist party with a Conservative party of capitalist leaning because both are engaged in populism appeal rather than striving for a revolutionary or ideological gain.

I contemplate that we are cursed with the modernity. If I consolidate my argument by saying, it’s a silent killer, it wouldn’t be wrong. It’s a downtrodden peril, in which we are all trapped. Modernity is what the subject that led the Michel Foucault to relearn it- that something became an impetus to ingrain lessons from it. Historical event, according to Foucault, is a box of idea that must be examined and observed to achieve life-enhancing ideas rather than leaving such box untouched and unexplored. When Foucault tells about the rethinking of our own dynamics and pattern of processing, he really means to open ways for something progressive and delightful to humanity and world. He believes in very notion that how modernity has killed the innermost of all of us. He sees modernity impromptus, in which contours of its dissemination are not set. They are uneven vaguely determined by the people in power. Hence, in this prism, postmodernism has dragged us all in perilous path, and it has been emerged as the challenge.

So are we able to sweep such realities of the postmodernism under the carpet? It would take some time to sweep such dirt. But we have to make it clean no matter what it demands or costs. The. human dignity is the real inspiration in order to harness the roadmap using the benefits and opportunities of the postmodern world and blending with certain positive endeavors taken by man in past. It seems appropriate that the idea of interdisciplinary approaches should be promoted and the ills of the specialization should be tackled by the therapy of human collectivism. There is a dire need of the reviewing the political and philosophical idea which reflects the negative side of the human nature, and the ways of the human betterment and civilization of human nature should be sought and practiced. The philosophy of humanism and futurist outlook can help in this regard to revive the faith in human betterment and it will heal the human pain and misery by the positive suggestions. In conclusion, I somehow led myself to become agree on his very notion that after the 17th century, a new attitude was born which relentlessly made man to become more medically and institutionally ill. I feel like the only retriever to override the ills of modernity is indirectly connected to the past events of history. I believe, we must not look history as a series of certain isolated events; as lists of kings and popes, of wars and revolutions, disconnected from each other. Rather, for history, the gain must be limitless by looking at each development as a part of long historical process.
